The Ice-Cast Bronze collection applies lost-wax casting processes to the abundance of ice in the Chicago winter to create uniquely textured objects and furniture cast in bronze.
Initiated during the polar vortex of 2010, which brought shockingly frigid temperatures to Chicago. Steven poured liquid casting wax into a frozen puddle outside the studio on one particularly cold night. The result, though raw and undeveloped was compelling enough to prompt further experimentation.
Over several years, this initial experiment has developed into a series of approaches to wax pouring into frozen forms to create unique and organically textured works cast in bronze.
